Horror fall sends jockey flying in terrifying horse racing incident | Racing | Sport

A jockey was launched into the air after being violently thrown from his mount during a race. Edgard Zayas was riding the gelding Glint, trained by Amira Chichakly, in an optional claiming race at Aqueduct in New York on Monday. The Puerto Rican jockey is a multiple stakes winner with nearly 2,700 victories to his name over 13 years of competition in the US.

Yet he may never have suffered quite so dramatic a fall as the one that unfolded early in Monday’s race, when Glint clipped the heels of the horse ahead of him, Screaming Uncle — an incident from which he was fortunately able to walk away. Glint subsequently stumbled, sending Zayas soaring skyward before he crashed back down onto the track.

The horse was swiftly retrieved by an outrider and led safely off the course.

One fan reacted: “Wow…I have never seen a jockey thrown in the air SO HIGH from a stumbling horse (8). Hope the jockey Edward Zayas is ok.”

Another said, “Wow, he was pole vaulted…ouch!” while others commented, “Unseated” is the understatement of 2026,” and “He should get frequent flyer miles for that.”

Zayas was stood down from his remaining rides on the ‘Belmont at the Big A’ card but escaped with only minor bruises.

The owners of Glint, In Front Racing Stables, provided an update on both the jockey and horse.

“Everything seems to have turned out fine,” they said. “Edgard Zayas only came away with a small cut on his face, plus some bruises and bumps, but he didn’t go to the hospital. Glint seems to be okay.”

Zayas posted: “Thank you to everyone for the prayers, messages, and positive thoughts today. Thank god I am okay and managed to escape any injuries!”
