I shopped at Asda for the first time—one thing surprised me

I recently shopped at Asda for the first time and expected it to feel pretty similar, but I was genuinely surprised by how much more affordable it was. A lot of everyday items were noticeably cheaper than I’m used to, and it made the whole shop feel much more budget-friendly.

For example, in my local Asda store, Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewell Tarts 6 Pack were just £2, while Mr Kipling Bakewell Cake Slices 6 Pack were £1.67.

This is in contrast to Sainsbury’s, where the cherry bakewell tarts are usually £3.75, and the cake slices are £2.95.

A punnet of Asda Strawberries 400g was £2.27, whereas the same size punnet in Sainsbury’s is £2.75. Plus, the Asda ones were delicious, much tastier than the ones I’ve purchased in Sainsbury’s.

I also found crisps to be much cheaper at Asda, while my local supermarket had a wider selection.

Walkers Quavers were slightly cheaper per quantity than Wotsits and Hula Hoops. Hula Hoops Cheese & Onion Multipack Crisps, a pack of six, are £2.35 in my local Sainsbury’s but £1.84 in Asda.

Medium cheddar was slightly cheaper, while the oat drink I use was significantly cheaper, so I made sure to stock up.

Sometimes they are cheaper in Sainsbury’s with a Nectar Card, but this isn’t every week.

Some items were similarly priced or identical, like 12 medium free-range eggs and fresh chicken breast. But I couldn’t help but notice how much cheaper certain items were.

Of course, these prices probably change daily or weekly, but I’m going to take the time to shop at Asda from now on. Plus, I can fill up my car with petrol there too, and it’s much cheaper.
