A castle used to house contestants on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here is among Wales’s most at-risk historical buildings, new data shows.
Gwrych Castle near Abergele in Conwy was used as the location of the reality series hosted by Ant and Dec in 2020 and 2021.
The series was forced to relocate from its usual location in Australia due to travel restrictions in place during the pandemic.
Cadw, the Welsh government’s historic environment service, published the full list of 2,708 at-risk buildings and structures in response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
The body’s aim is to protect Wales‘s historic buildings and structures so that people can continue to visit them.
Powys (304), Gwynedd (242), Pembrokeshire (241) have the highest number of at-risk buildings on the register.
The Grade I listed country house is included as one of the 715 buildings and structures in its most at-risk category, the highest of three categories.
The Gwrych Castle trust was given £2.2m by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) as part of its COVID response fund last year.
The trust said the money would allow urgent repairs to be carried out, including a permanent roof and floors.
