US President Donald Trump has been warned by Iran that the “global economy will pay the price” if he attacks again.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a US official, reports that the US and Israel are planning to launch attacks on Iran as early as this weekend.

CBS News also reports that the strikes will target Iran’s energy infrastructure.

An Israeli official told the outlet: “Israel is unaware of a decision to restart full military operations, nor has been requested of Israel to join any military actions against Iran.”

Amid reports that strikes on Iran could resume, Iranian Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Zolqadr has warned that Tehran could use the Strait of Hormuz once again to choke international trade.

He said: “America’s continued provocation tightens the lock on the Strait of Hormuz…the continuation of the US regime’s naval blockade and provocation both tightens the lock on the Strait of Hormuz and closes other chokepoints; and the global economy, the energy market, and American voters will pay the price for it.”

US President Trump warned this week that Iran will be hit “very hard” if a peace deal is not finalised.

He said: “We just want to win. We’re doing very well. We’re trying to be as nice as you can be in a situation like that. But they’re being decimated.

“It’s very simple. Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.”

“We’ll be hitting Iran very hard, and at some point, they’re going to say, ‘We just can’t take it anymore.'”

The conflict started in February, when the US and Israel launched strikes across Iran, killing Tehran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
