Jude Bellingham forcibly held back from referee as Bayern vs Real ends in chaos | Football | Sport

Jude Bellingham was among the Real Madrid players who erupted in rage towards the referee at full-time of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final defeat to Bayern Munich. The two teams had been level on aggregate heading into the 89th minute, but two quick-fire goals from the hosts saw them progress to the final four at Real Madrid’s expense.

Luis Diaz fired home from the edge of the box before fellow ex-Premier League ace, Michael Olise, put the icing on the cake with a stunning strike deep into added time. It came after the visitors were reduced to 10 men following a needless second yellow card for Eduardo Camavinga.

The Real Madrid players took exception to the referee’s decision-making at the full-time whistle, with several, including Bellingham, seen remonstrating towards him. It continued to bubble over as the players made their way towards the tunnel, with Arda Guler being shown a red card as a result of his protests.

Alvaro Arbeloa added fuel to the fire during his post-match debrief, telling TNT Sports: “With the red card, everything is over… It’s unbelievable this action, I can’t believe it. Not possible in a match like this, we feel really upset. All of this is unfair…

“I’m very sad for my players, but I’m also very proud of them, because they gave it everything. They played very well, left it all out there, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. We’ll be back.”

Bayern Munich had led heading into the second leg, but were pegged back early doors after a Manuel Neuer mistake gifted the Turkish international a goal inside 40 seconds. Bayern quickly struck back, but Guler was again on target, this time from a free-kick to put the Spanish side back in front on the night.

Harry Kane was next to find the back of the net in what was turning into a topsy-turvy contest, while Kylian Mbappe levelled things at 4-4 on aggregate before the half-time break. That’s how it remained until the dying embers of the match, with Diaz and Olise sending the record Bundesliga champions through to the last four.

Vincent Kompany’s side will be rewarded with a mouth-watering semi-final clash against reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the bracket, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal will go head-to-head for a place in next month’s Champions League final.
