Jurgen Klopp has already confirmed stance on Liverpool return after Arne Slot axe | Football | Sport

It means the Liverpool hierarchy are on the lookout for a new manager once again, with some suggestions they should try and tempt Klopp back to the club. The German is one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever coaches, but decided to resign in 2024, citing a lack of energy following an illustrious nine-year stint in charge.

During his time with the Anfield outfit, Klopp lifted the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as several domestic cup triumphs. It would certainly be a move that sent shockwaves across the footballing world, but how likely is it?

The good news, for Liverpool fans at least, is Klopp hasn’t ruled out a return when speaking previously. Klopp, who is currently plying his trade as the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, was quizzed last year and said: “I said I will never coach a different team in England. So that means if [Klopp returns] it’s Liverpool.”

However, during an interview with the High Performance Podcast, Klopp also said it was unlikely, although possible: “So yeah, theoretically it’s possible. I love what I do right now, I don’t miss coaching. I don’t. I mean I do coach, just different, not players. And I don’t miss it. I don’t miss standing in the rain two-and-a-half, three hours. I don’t miss going to press conference three times a week, having 10-12 interviews a week. I don’t miss that.

“I don’t miss being in the dressing room in the sense that I don’t have it often enough, I coached 1,080 something games. So, I was in the dressing room very, very often.

“I’m 58, that’s from your perspective, old from the other side, it’s not that old. That means I could make the decision in a few years. I don’t know. [If] I had to make the decision today, I won’t coach again but thank God I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”

The short answer appears to be that, while not impossible, the chances remain very slim. Instead, it would appear as if Liverpool are pushing hard to secure the services of Andoni Iraola, who left Bournemouth earlier this month after a successful three-year stint.
