Lamine Yamal targeted in ‘attempted robbery’ just hours after World Cup match | Football | Sport
Lamine Yamal‘s house was targeted in an attempted robbery just hours after Spain’s victory over France on Tuesday night, according to reports. The unsavoury incident is said to have taken place shortly after Yamal helped his country to reach the World Cup final, where they will face England or Argentina. Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro were on target as Spain produced a display for the ages to send Les Bleus crashing out.
Just hours later, Yamal’s home in Barcelona was the scene of an attempted robbery, according to Spanish outlet La Vanguardia. It’s claimed the player’s private security personnel detected two hooded individuals attempting to access the property and activated the emergency protocol. Shortly afterwards, the would-be thieves reportedly fled the scene.
Catalan police are now thought to be looking into the attempted robbery, with the Criminal Investigation Division examining security footage of the hooded individuals.
The property, which previously belonged to Gerard Pique and Shakira, has once again become the focus of attention after Yamal showed off the mansion in a ‘house tour’ video shortly before travelling to the World Cup.
Yamal is not the only Barcelona player to have been targeted by thieves in recent months. The homes of Pau Cubarsi and Joan Garcia were robbed in February as part of a spate of crimes targeting high-net-worth individuals in the area.
In the case of Cubarsi, intruders reportedly broke into his home when he was at training and stole a high-end watch, among other things.
Garcia’s property was robbed when he was in Saudi Arabia to play in the Spanish Super Cup, with thieves taking jewellery and cash after activating the alarm at the goalkeeper’s house.
Yamal, meanwhile, will be hoping to put the attempted robbery to one side as he prepares to represent his country in the World Cup final.
He was spotted limping after the victory over France but manager Luis de la Fuente was quick to downplay the prospect of an injury.
Speaking after the final whistle, he said: “Lamine has nothing that I know of. I have spoken to the doctors now. Pedro Porro seems like an overload, but we’ll see tomorrow.”
