Liverpool ‘put feelers out’ in blow to Man Utd as positions decided | Football | Sport

Liverpool’s transfer ambitions could prove troublesome for Manchester United, who are equally desperate to strengthen their midfield options. Several of United’s primary targets have previously been linked with Liverpool, including Adam Wharton. Another hectic summer is anticipated at Anfield as the club looks to address the shortcomings of this season.

Liverpool are acutely aware that a wide player capable of filling Salah’s boots is an absolute priority following the announcement of his Anfield exit last month. However, reports from the Daily Mail suggest the Reds are keen to inject greater mobility into their midfield, with energy and athleticism high on the agenda this summer.

Wharton, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali are amongst the names touted for a potential switch to Old Trafford, with the Italian having been tentatively linked with Anfield in recent weeks. Reds boss Slot has already conceded that Liverpool find themselves in a period of transition, with several players approaching the twilight of their time at the club.

Slot said: “We are a club in transition. A club always has certain cycles with certain players. A lot of them that were so successful for the club have already left or are leaving. As I said many times, the future looks very good, especially if we can sign players after good players leaving this summer.

“Unfortunately, that also happens with free transfers, that will happen with Mo, that will happen with Robbo, and that has happened already with Trent… as you know, the club that we are, we need to recoup our money and to spend again.

“That is the challenge that we had last season, we had to sell 10-11 players to sign five to six. That’s going to be another challenge this summer, because we do have to replace the ones who are leaving. But this club have shown so many times that this model works and with this model we can be successful, and I am also proud to work for this club and work our model.”
