Luke Littler won a second consecutive World Matchplay title on Sunday and is now the first player in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) history to claim a staggering £3million in prize money. The 19-year-old crushed Gerwyn Price 18-9 in Blackpool and claimed £225,000. Littler’s winnings mean there is now a stunning £2m gap between himself and nearest rival and world No. 2 Luke Humphries.

Reaching the £3m mark is not the first time he’s etched his name into the history books either. The darts sensation scooped the very first £1m prize when he defended his World Championship crown at Alexandra Palace in January of this year.

Littler has put his newfound status to good use in securing his financial future. The teenager has endorsement deals with the likes of BoohooMAN, Xbox and KP Nuts. He has also extended his partnership with Target Darts.

According to the Press Association, the arrangement, which includes potential earnings, bonuses and a share of merchandise and equipment sales, is valued at £20million over 10 years and represents the most substantial contract the sport has ever seen.

“Target has believed in me from day one and I’m delighted that there are many more years to come,” said Littler, who is also managed by the firm. “From my playing career to my product range, we’ve built everything together and I’m really excited to commit to our partnership long-term and see where we can take this next.”

Littler’s Matchplay victory means he could be on for a clean sweep of tournaments this year. He has already won the World Darts Championship, the UK Open, the Premier League and the Masters. He is also defending the Grand Slam, the Grand Prix and the Players Championship Finals.

“It’s been a crazy week, one of the best weeks of my life with the darts I’ve played,” Littler said after beating Price on Sunday. “It’s not been easy, it’s been tough.

“The stats make it look easy but when you’re on this stage with how hot it is, I’ve definitely played some of the best darts of my life. I feel like it’s the best version of myself. I have just played so well.”
