A major jersey and sneaker retailer has plunged into administration, with 31 stores now under review, it has been reported. Stateside Sports, one of Australia’s biggest retailers for NBA jerseys, NFL merchandise and sneaker apparel, has entered voluntary administration.
Founded in 2017, the retailer built its reputation by specialising in American sports merchandise tied to the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball, while also offering Australian favourites such as retro NRL jerseys. The chain carries major global labels including Nike, Jordan, New Era and Mitchell & Ness. It also became known for tying product launches and in‑store events to major sporting moments, from Formula One to the UFC, helping cement its identity as a destination for sport‑driven streetwear culture.
Advisory firm DVT Mcleods has been brought in to manage the process, with partners Antony Resnick and Henry Kwok appointed as voluntary administrators on May 22.
Mr Resnick said: “While we will be focusing on changes in its operations and retail footprint as a matter of urgency, for now it is business as usual and products will continue to be sold in-store and online.”
He explained that Stateside Sports had been hit by weaker discretionary spending, inflationary cost pressures and competition from global retailers.
He continued: “Australian retail has never been a game for the faint-hearted, but even for Stateside Sports, who are operating in a niche, youth-focused, brand relevant market, current trading conditions are tough.”
Mr Resnick noted that the retailer still represents a strong acquisition opportunity thanks to its nationwide brand recognition and established e‑commerce infrastructure, which continue to make it appealing to potential buyers.
He also highlighted the stability that comes from its broad customer base and strong alignment with major sports and streetwear brands.
