Man claims bride transgender 25 days after getting married | World | News

A man in India has claimed his new wife is a transgender woman after a relative spotted her shaving. The 32-year-old from Madhya Pradesh accused his in-laws of hiding his bride’s identity before their arranged marriage.

His suspicions reportedly grew when his spouse allegedly made excuses not to consummate their marriage on their wedding day. She complained of being on her period that night and of stomach pain the next day.

Police in India opened a case against five members of the bride’s family on July 25, The Times of India reports.

The groom alleges the match was made via a neighbour who introduced his parents to a prospective bride from Pachore.

His family wanted to wait a year before the couple married, but the groom’s family claimed they were rushed into an early wedding.

The vegetable seller and his partner married at a Hindu temple on June 29. His family claim they spent £428,000 (Rs 5 lakh) on the nuptials.

Suspicions the bride is transgender grew after the groom’s sister-in-law saw her shaving.

She had just returned from a three week-long stay with her family.

A day after she returned to her husband on July 23, his family asked hers to take her back.

The Times of India reports that when her relatives arrived they allegedly attacked and verbally abused his relatives.

Kotwali police chief Santosh Baghela said whether or not the woman is transgender would only be confirmed by a medical examination.
