Manchester United could seal as many as seven transfers just this week as Michael Carrick and INEOS are shaping up the squad for the coming season. Three senior signings have arrived, in the form of Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow, but more business is expected in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

United are considering a surprise swoop for Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly, who may become available following the Gunners’ signing of Bruno Guimaraes, while several players may still exit before the campaign starts later this month. United declined to act on their previous interest in Lewis-Skelly, but The Independent claim that United may now U-turn on that decision and are exploring whether a deal would be feasible.

Last season, Lewis-Skelly saw limited action, and rumours emerged that United might try to tempt him away from the Emirates. However, the 19-year-old subsequently established himself in midfield.

But should Arsenal complete a move for Newcastle’s Guimaraes this week, it could further crowd the midfield and mean, once again, the young Englishman finds himself short of playing time.

Any sale would represent pure profit under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations as far as Arsenal are concerned. While the deal would be challenging to broker, the pieces could fall into place.

Manu Kone and Marcus Rashford

Meanwhile, United’s own midfield has been overhauled this summer following the arrivals of Tielemans and Santos, yet they remain keen to bring in one further player in that area.

Roma’s Kone, who caught the eye for France at the World Cup, is understood to be a target, and Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Rashford could move in the opposite direction to facilitate a deal.

The English forward spent last season on loan with Barcelona but finds himself in an uncertain position after the club chose not to activate a £26m buy option. He could yet remain at United, though neither the club nor the player are keen on that outcome.

Roma require a winger but are currently hampered by FFP restrictions, meaning a swap arrangement could suit both sides, as Rashford seeks a fresh start and United chase another midfield signing this week. Kone is valued at £51m.

Last week, reports emerged that four United youngsters have been deemed expendable. Among them was Czech goalkeeper Vitek, who has featured during pre-season.

There is considerable interest in the 22-year-old shot-stopper, with a permanent departure looking increasingly likely. He spent the previous campaign on loan at Bristol City.

Another player who could potentially move on is Harry Amass. The left-back has featured for Carrick during pre-season and has impressed when called upon to deputise for Luke Shaw.

Nevertheless, he has attracted interest from Championship clubs and is reportedly valued at approximately £6m by United. It is understood that Amass’ representatives are weighing up their options ahead of the new season, with both Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui ranked above him in the squad hierarchy.

Midfielder Dan Gore has endured a difficult few seasons with injuries and spent last term at Rotherham United, where he featured in a central midfield role.

Yet he has been informed that his best prospects of regular game time this campaign lie with the Under-21s, and he could be another departure should a suitable bid materialise. Middlesbrough have been mentioned as potential suitors.

Fellow academy product Toby Collyer spent last season on loan at Hull City and, despite showing flashes of promise, could also exit during the summer window.

Should the right offer arrive for Collyer, he will be sold on a permanent basis, as he is keen on senior football and has been identified by coaches as a future established Premier League player.
