Man Utd can offload 5 stars to AC Milan in Ruben Amorim dream reunion | Football | Sport
Amorim had arrived in England with plenty of promise, having impressed with Sporting, but it very quickly unravelled, and after just over a year in charge, he was sacked in January. On the whole, it was a disaster, but there were still some players he enjoyed working with, and ahead of his announcement as Milan boss, Express Sport have picked out some United stars he could look to target.
One of the most used players under Amorim, Diogo Dalot was a key cog in his system and unlike several others, appeared to get to grips with it. Dalot is entering the final two years of his contract at United and the Red Devils are said to be targeting full-backs this summer. Amorim joining Milan could be the perfect opportunity for United to sell and Dalot to reunite with his former boss.
What looked like a fantastic coup when United signed him has itself turned into a bit of a nightmare. Matthijs de Ligt wasn’t seen in the second half of the season, with the Dutchman having been suffering from a back injury. However, he isn’t expected to stick around at Old Trafford for much longer, with a move this summer being touted.
One of the brightest sparks from Amorim’s time as United boss, Amad came of age under the much-maligned coach. Things haven’t necessarily been the same under Michael Carrick, with the Ivorian having seen his minutes reduced and starting opportunities dwindle. Be that a loan to reboot his career, or a permanent transfer, Amorim should be trying to get Amad to San Siro.
While not technically signed by him, Manuel Ugarte was known to Amorim from their time at Sporting. But it just hasn’t worked out for the Uruguayan in the Premier League, with his play style not suited to England’s top flight. It might be more transferable to the slower and less intense Serie A though, meaning a transfer to Milan might make sense for Ugarte.
And finally, Joshua Zirkzee is another player on United’s for sale list, having originally joined back in the summer of 2024. While he was by no means an automatic starter under Amorim, the Dutch international did enjoy some positive moments, and Zirkzee netted eight times for the 20-time champions under his tutelage. What’s more, it was in Serie A where Zirkzee made a name for himself with Bologna, so it’s a league the forward certainly knows how to shine in.
