Man Utd given green light to complete £100m Elliot Anderson transfer | Football | Sport

Roy Keane has given his green light for Manchester United to sign Elliot Anderson as the Nottingham Forest midfielder continues to attract interest. Anderson features prominently on United’s wishlist this summer, though Manchester City are currently leading the race to secure his signature, despite Forest slapping a £100million valuation on him.

Since his switch from Newcastle in the summer of 2024, the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s finest young midfielders. Anderson is also expected to feature in England’s starting lineup at this summer’s World Cup, with Keane saying on Sky Sports: “He’s done very well getting into the squad and the team.

“Every time the England manager has spoken about him he’s spoken very highly of him. He’s had a big impact and some of the England games can be easy, but they can be a test for a player because you can overthink it and try too hard.”

“But he has settled very well into that international fold and he will be a cert to go in the squad and starting 11.”

Keane, speaking ahead of United’s win over Forest, added: “Sometimes with experience you can try too hard and when the team is in trouble, but that is where the experience will kick in – when to sit and when to start chasing people.”

Asked about Anderson before his side’s win 3-2 at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick said: “Yeah, he’s done well. I think he’s a big part of their team.

“I think he offers so much, and they’ve got a really talented team and dangerous team. So they’ve had a good season to get to the [Europa League] semi-finals and just fall short. But yeah, you can see obviously he is important part of their team.”

Offering advice to Anderson last month, former City midfielder Gareth Barry said: “I think he needs to look at his game time.

“If it were me personally and I were Elliott Anderson, then I would be looking at my game time.

“If Rodri stays at Manchester City, then he probably has less chance of playing as many games, although he would still get game time.

“But I would be looking at stuff like that, as he is still a young player, and he will want to be playing games.

“I’m an ex-Man City player, so I am not going to push any player to go to Man United, but I would be looking at who is going to be around and who I am going to be competing against.

“But even more, where is Pep going to be? Who is the Man United manager going to be? A lot of these things will be going through Elliott Anderson’s head at the minute if he is to leave Nottingham Forest.”
