Man Utd set to sign England international who scored 45 goals last season | Football | Sport

Manchester United are reportedly set to sign teenage striker Blake Henry, who turned heads across the country by netting an astonishing 45 goals last season. The time has arrived for the youngster, who represents England at youth level, to leave Derby County this summer.

United are expected to bring the 14-year-old to Old Trafford, where he will join their academy system, according to BBC Sport. Henry featured for the Rams in the under-18 Premier League this season, becoming one of the youngest players ever to appear in the competition, just months after celebrating his 14th birthday.

He clocked up 24 minutes across two appearances in that competition for Derby, yet still managed to score 45 goals across all competitions and age groups.

His prolific form has firmly establishing him as one of the most coveted attacking talents in the country. Derby will be entitled to compensation when Henry completes his transfer to United.

The eventual figure will determined by his age, the duration of his time at Derby’s academy, the academy category of the signing club, along with his development and training costs.

The initial step will be for both clubs to reach a mutual agreement, failing which the matter will be referred to a Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal to determine the final outcome.

United have been casting their eye over a number of promising youngsters at rival academies this summer as they seek to bolster their own pipeline of emerging talent.

They will also be looking to improve their first-team squad as Michael Carrick prepares for his first full season in charge.

United have already agreed to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is widely expected to become their first arrival of the summer window.

They are also interested in bringing West Ham playmaker Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford over the coming weeks.
