Manchester United have reportedly struck a transfer agreement for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir to leave Old Trafford this summer. The Turkish stopper is set to join La Liga outfit Celta Vigo, who emerged as frontrunners despite interest from Bayindir’s homeland.
Bayindir arrived at the club as a number two to Andre Onana, under Erik ten Hag, but he failed to win over the Dutchman despite Onana also failing to make a positive impression. Once Onana left on loan last summer, Bayindir had a chance to take over, but United opted to sign youngster Senne Lammens and the 28-year-old has found regular playing time difficult.
Spanish outlet Metropolitano now claim that Celta Vigo are close to completing a loan arrangement for Bayindir from United, with the deal nearly wrapped up.
The report also suggests that the La Liga club are optimistic about confirming Bayindir’s signing next week, with the goalkeeper set to join his new team-mates at a training camp in Italy.
A further report from Spanish outlet AS has indicated that the 28-year-old is scheduled to complete a medical ahead of his Celta Vigo switch on either Sunday or Monday.
Despite the interest surrounding Bayindir, United still named the Turkey international in their squad for the pre-season friendly against Atletico Madrid in Sweden on Saturday evening.
It remains unclear exactly if and when Bayindir will depart Old Trafford, though all indications suggest the goalkeeper’s spell at the club is drawing to a close, albeit on a temporary loan basis.
