Man Utd told world-class free agent is ‘a no brainer’ as INEOS urged to act fast | Football | Sport
Manchester United have been encouraged to sign Robert Lewandowski following his departure from Barcelona FC, with a potential move being described as a “no-brainer”. The Poland international has seen his contract run down at the Nou Camp, with the Catalans choosing not to retain the striker, who is now 37.
Despite that, Lewandowski has continued to score with consistency and will prove valuable to whichever club secures his services. Lewandowski is well accustomed to representing elite clubs, given his CV includes spells at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. He netted 120 times across his four campaigns in Spain, and former United forward Gusieppe Rossi believes he would prove an excellent acquisition.
United have Benjamin Sesko as their primary attacking option, but Rossi views Lewandowski as the perfect mentor for the young striker to study under. The Italian told Ozoon: “Robert Lewandowski to Man Utd? Yeah, why not?
“Of course, Lewandowski would be an incredible asset for the young players, providing his experience and big-game knowledge. With Benjamin Sesko being a young, growing player, having someone like Lewandowski on the team would only benefit him. It’s a no-brainer. He has a huge resume and on a short-term deal, it’s a win-win.”
United invested heavily in their attacking options last summer, bringing in Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. All three signings proved successful at the club, contributing 34 goals between them, as they clinched a return to the Champions League, which will strengthen their recruitment efforts this summer.
Michael Carrick and the club’s primary focus is on securing a midfielder in the coming months, with a deal for Ederson from Atalanta understood to be close to completion.
They will continue to scout further reinforcements in the centre of the pitch should the right candidate emerge at an acceptable price, with a number of Premier League names already being linked.
United have been left short up front following Rasmus Hojlund‘s permanent departure to Napoli after his loan spell in Italy, and Lewandowski could represent an affordable solution to bolster their attacking options.
The Red Devils have a strong track record of recruiting elite strikers, having brought Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford in 2020.
The Uruguayan had been a prolific force at PSG, holding the record as their all-time leading scorer for a period, before making the move to Manchester on a free transfer. He went on to net 17 goals in his debut season at the club.
