Man Utd’s next three transfers after Youri Tielemans decided as £35m deal done | Football | Sport
The Belgium captain has spent the last eight seasons in the Premier League with Leicester City and Villa and will now make the move to Old Trafford. Personal terms are not expected to prove a problem for Tielemans as he makes the biggest move of his career. And the Red Devils have already secured another three transfers to follow Tielemans through the door too.
Free agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow will come in to replace Altay Bayindir who is set to leave United permanently. English shot-stopper Darlow left Leeds United last month when his contract expired and won’t cost the club a penny as he becomes the new No.2 to Senne Lammens.
Andrey Santos is also set to strengthen Michael Carrick’s midfield options in a £50million move (£48m plus £2m in add-ons) from Chelsea. The Brazilian has passed a medical and agreed terms on a long-term contract.
The official announcements of Darlow and Santos’ arrivals are expected soon before United embark on their pre-season tour of Europe which will include trips to Finland (Helsinki), Norway (Trondheim), Sweden (Stockholm and Gothenburg), the Republic of Ireland (Dublin) and Poland (Wroclaw).
But the Premier League giants are also set to formally announce the signing of youngster Cristian Orozco, who turned 18 today (Monday). The Colombian under-17 international can now officially be registered as a player by United.
The defensive midfielder will be thrust into the under-21s as he settles to life in Europe, with the plan that he will blossom into a first-team player in the coming years.
The imminent signings of Tielemans and Santos do mean that Ederson’s proposed switch from Atalanta is currently off the table. Despite playing for Brazil at the World Cup, a knee problem was reportedly spotted in the 27-year-old’s medical tests.
United have therefore tried to renegotiate their agreement with Atalanta, who are ready to offer the player a new contract if he does not move to England, and it does not appear likely Ederson will become a United player.
Carrick has missed out on several high-profile midfielders this summer such as Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, who both joined Tottenham for a combined £185m, and Aurelien Tchouameni who has chosen to sign a new contract at Real Madrid.
