Nationwide Building Society has clarified the qualifying rules for a £100 payment going out to customers. There are several ways you can be eligible for the bonus payment into your account.

More than four million members are set to receive this year’s Fairer Share payment. This annual event is where Nationwide issues bonus payments to customers, to share out its profits.

The coming payment will be the fourth year in a row the mutual has issued the extra cash to its loyal customers. There was a £100 payment over each of the past three years, with another round of bonus cash.

Payments will go out to eligible customers between June 10 and 30. However, one customer raised concerns with Nationwide that they could miss out on the bonuses this year.

Customer concerns

Posting on social media, they said: “Neither me nor my wife have had emails regarding Fairer Share payment this year. We’ve had it every year and all our accounts remain the same.

“Is there any reason we may not have it this year or any way you can check?” The terms and conditions state that if you have a joint account with Nationwide, as each of you are considered a Nationwide member, you will both individually get the £100 payment.

So this couple may have racked up £600 in bonus cash to date through the scheme, and could miss out on £200 this year between them if they don’t qualify.

Similar to last year’s payment, you need to have a current account with Nationwide along with either a savings account or a mortgage with the mutual. There are other qualifying rules depending on which combination of accounts you have.

Responding to the customer, Nationwide said: “We’re writing by email or letter to eligible members who are receiving the payment. But if you would like to check, you can.”

They direct the customer to how they could check their eligibility. Nationwide said the member could try using the chat service in the Nationwide app or internet bank.
