Netflix viewers bingeing ‘amazing’ thriller series based on true story | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
If you are looking for something new to “binge watch” in a day, a “masterpiece” crime drama on Netflix may be the answer.
Luke Ecclestone, who is known on social media as Eccy Reviews, took to TikTok to share his advice on what to stream next. “This is your next binge and it’s a gripping thriller based on a true story,” he declared in a video.
The six-part limited series is called Legends and is available to watch in full now. “It’s already trending because everyone is watching it,” Luke went on to enthuse.
He continued: “It’s a gripping, true thriller set in the early 1990s and follows customs officers, who are basically told to go undercover.” Luke said the officers have to infiltrate drug gangs, which will leave you feeling “really tense”.
Without giving too much away, he explained that they have to use fake identities, which puts them under “massive mental strain”. Luke closed: “Trust me, this is a really gripping show you simply have to go and see.”
Netflix‘s Legends synospis states: “As drugs flood the streets of ’90s Britain, a team of civil servants is thrust undercover to topple the gangs behind it. Inspired by an untold true story.”
Indeed, Legends’ title card notes: “The following is inspired by real events. Some elements have been created for dramatic purposes and to protect those involved.”
“While another reads: “In the 1990s, undercover Investigators from Her Majesty’s Customs helped British law enforcement seize more than 12 tonnes of heroin with a street value of over one billion pounds.
“They did so with a fraction of the training and resources of their international counterparts and with the public largely unaware of their work. Until now.”
Created by Neil Forsyth, the series stars Tom Burke as Guy, Steve Coogan as Don and Hayley Squires as Kate. On IMDb, meanwhile, Legends boasts an impressive rating of 7.9 out 10 from almost 2,000 reviews.
Writing in response, one TikTok user who has already watched the show since it arrived on Netflix on May 8, admitted: “Took me by surprise this one, Steve Coogan in a serious role and he nails it.”
A second person confessed: “I got hooked on this yesterday. Is it bad to say I watched the whole lot in one day?” A third praised: “Started bingeing that last night, 10/10. Best show I’ve watched in ages.”
Whilst a fourth TikTok user hailed: “I’m on episode four and it’s brilliant! Actually a true story too, it’s crazy. The 90s was my era and there definitely was a big drug problem in the UK. Definitely worth watching.”
