New film release is ‘standout’ and has perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes | Films | Entertainment
A brand new British film has just been released, and critics are hailing it. The British romantic comedy film directed by Alicia MacDonald is called Finding Emily.
The film was written by Rachel Hirons and produced by Working Title Films. It stars Angourie Rice, Spike Fearn, Minnie Driver and Sadie Soverall.
The film’s synopsis reads: “When a lovesick musician is given the wrong number for his dream girl, he teams up with a driven psychology student to find her. Together, they spark a hilarious campus-wide frenzy that tests their own hearts and ambitions along the way.”
Finding Emily has amassed a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic said: “Blending rich social commentary on the psychology of love, cancel culture and the age of social media with a swoon-worthy romance, excellent performances and a banging soundtrack, Finding Emily is a fantastic watch.”
“You can feel the likes of Notting Hill and When Harry Met Sally… in it, but there’s enough originality to keep things from feeling formulaic,” added another.
A third said: “The supporting cast, including a standout Minnie Driver as the university dean, are gleefully at ease in their roles and Rice and Fearn are suitably adorable and ingenuous throughout.”
“There’s a winning earnestness radiating from its lead performers that smooths over the potentially-unintentional discomfort, tired rom-com tropes, and occasionally eye-rolling soundtrack.”
One critic added: “Rachel Hirons’s sterling script pokes fun not only at Owen’s blokey cluelessness but the hatchet-faced contempt of the mob trying to cancel him: they’re equally good targets, and the hit rate of satirical zingers here is unusually high.”
Another said: “This is a very gentle, light-touch send-up of campus culture wars and social media pile-ons.”
“Blending rich social commentary on the psychology of love, cancel culture and the age of social media with a swoon-worthy romance, excellent performances and a banging soundtrack, Finding Emily is a fantastic watch,” another wrote.
Finding Emily is out now in cinemas.
