Not milk or butter – add 1 ingredient to make ‘creamy scrambled eggs’
Scrambled eggs are a staple breakfast meal for a reason. Not only are they incredibly easy to whip together in just a few minutes, they also incredibly tasty and filling.
And the best part is that its a dish you can keep simple by cracking some eggs into a pan, or make them more gourmet by changing up the way you cook them or the ingredients you use to replicate the scrambled eggs you’d get at a luxurious establishment. Because of this, many professional chefs will have their own preferred ways of making the classic breakfast dish.
This includes Gordon Ramsay, the British chef and TV presenter, who has shared his go-to recipe for making scrambled eggs, and it’s includes adding in one special ingredient to make them extra creamy – but it’s not the common butter or milk that many will think.
These scrambled eggs have been described to be incredibly soft, creamy, and custard-like, by anyone who eats them. This is achieved by cooking them slowly over on-and-off heat.
But he also adds a teaspoon of a ingredient most people already have in their fridge to achieve the creamy consistency – but it’s not butter or milk.
Instead, he swears by adding a teaspoon of cold crème fraîche to the egg mixture at the end of the cooking process.
But first, he cracks chilled eggs directly into a heated deep-sided saucepan, then incorporating cold butter whilst stirring continuously.
The pan must be removed from the heat periodically while maintaining constant stirring. The finished eggs should appear “custardy and smooth”.
To complete the dish, fold in a spoonful of crème fraîche and season with salt, and some chives, if you so fancy. And that’s it. All in all, the recipe only takes a few minutes, and while it required a little more work by moving the pot back and forth from the warm hob, it’s defnetly worth the extra work.
At least, that’s what one Reddit user said, as they took to the ’52 weeks of cooking’ forum to share their results of making the crème fraîche scrambled eggs for the first time.
They wrote: “I know this recipe is quite simple, but I saw Gordon Ramsay teach and make this dish on Master Chef Junior a while back and I’ve been hankering to make it ever since!
“We all know how to make the basic scrambled egg, but when I saw Gordon Ramsay put his fancy twist on it (with the additional of creme fraiche), I was curious to try it. Who doesn’t love scrambled eggs?” they added.
So was it worth the ‘fancy twist’? According to the user, the addition of the crème fraîche ended up elevating the classic scrambled eggs, while still being easy to whip together.
“All in all, I think I will go with this way of making scrambled eggs from now on. It’s not much different or more difficult than the “traditional” way of making scrambled eggs, but the product is a little better!” they said.
