Nottingham Forest ‘to sack Vitor Pereira’ and name fifth new manager in a year | Football | Sport

Nottingham Forest are reportedly on the verge of sacking Vitor Pereira just months after the Portuguese coach saved them from relegation, with his replacement having already been identified. He would be the latest manager to have come and gone at the City Ground, as Forest are left looking for yet another new manager.

The 57-year-old has one year left on his current deal, having penned an 18-month contract when he was originally appointed in February. Pereira’s only other job in the Premier League also lasted less than a year, when he was sacked by Wolves after a nine-month stint in charge.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims Pereira could be let go before the season begins, after a rift between the hierarchy and the ex-Wolves boss began to open up. It’s said there have been movements behind the scenes, and Forest could be once again looking for a new manager.

It’s reported by The Telegraph that Oliver Glasner has been sounded out as Pereira’s replacement, with the Austrian having left Crystal Palace at the end of the season. He won the Conference League with the Eagles, but had announced his departure earlier in the campaign.

If that proves to be the case, it would mark the fifth manager Forest have had in 12 months, given Nuno Espirito Santo having started the 2025/26 campaign in charge of the Tricky Trees. By the time the September international break rolled around, Nuno was gone, after suggestions that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had broken down.

Ange Postecoglou was ushered in as his replacement, but the Aussie managed just 39 days in charge before facing the axe himself. Forest went from one extreme to another, given Marinakis and co. called upon the sturdy Sean Dyche to rescue them from the situation.

Dyche lasted a little longer than his predecessor, but was sacked after only 114 days, with Pereira coming in and seeing out the rest of the season. Pereira not only helped save Forest from relegation, but also guided the East Midlands outfit to the Europa League semi-final.

Forest’s season has already been tumultuous, given they appear to have lost star player Elliot Anderson as part of a British-record transfer to Manchester City. Speaking ahead of the summer transfer window, Forest’s chairman Nicholas Randall KC said: “As we look ahead to the 2026/27 season, our message is clear. We are stronger together.

“Our intention is to retain the core of this talented squad while strengthening in key areas during the summer transfer window. We remain committed to bringing players of genuine quality to Nottingham Forest, but equally important are the personal qualities and character that reflect the values and culture of our football club.”

Forest will return to pre-season ahead of the new campaign later this month, with their first match of the season scheduled for Saturday, August 22. They welcome Leeds United to the City Ground, with matches against Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa to start the season.
