Novak Djokovic announcement on eve of Wimbledon after withdrawing from tournament | Tennis | Sport
An announcement has been made about Novak Djokovic just days before Wimbledon gets underway. The Serb is on the lookout for his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title, but it’s been four years since he last triumphed at the All England Club.
Ahead of Wimbledon getting underway though, it has been announced he’ll be the focus of a Prime Video documentary. It’s titled The Wolf In Winter and will premiere on 20th August 2026, by which point he might’ve secured that elusive 25th Slam title!
It charts his rise from a life growing up in war-torn Serbia, to becoming a teenage prodigy and then one of the greatest tennis players – and athletes – of all time. Djokovic was part of the ‘Big Three’, alongside Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, with the trio having dominated tennis across the last few decades.
Reacting to the announcement, Djokovic said: “Tennis has given me so much, but the greatest battles were never only on the court. This documentary is about the moments people didn’t see—the doubts, the sacrifices, and the work of constantly evolving beyond the story so many think they know.
“I’m proud to share this side of my life with my family, my team, my friends, and the fans who have supported me throughout. Amazon and Jason understood that this was never only a story about tennis, but about the people, values, and moments behind it. The journey has been incredible—but the journey is far from over.”
Commenting on the release, director Jason Hehir remarked: “I’ve always been fascinated by what drives the greatest athletes, and specifically what motivates them once they’ve reached the pinnacle of their sport. Novak gave us unfettered access to his tireless physical and mental preparation as he competes at the highest level of the sport battling men sometimes half his age.
“In the process, we got to know him as a father, a husband, a friend and a sometimes maddeningly stubborn polarising cultural figure. He’s a fascinating person, and I’m excited for audiences to see this exploration of a GOAT at the crossroads in the twilight of a brilliant career.”
The documentary features a star-studded cast, which includes interviews with Djokovic himself, his wife Jelena, his family, and leading figures from the world of tennis – including Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, and Jim Courier.
