‘One of the best Stephen King adaptations yet’ now streaming | Films | Entertainment
One of three Stephen King adaptations to reach cinemas last year, acclaimed as ‘one of the best films of 2025’, is now available for streaming.
The Long Walk can finally be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home at no additional charge.
That is, provided you hold an Amazon Prime subscription, as it was recently incorporated into its constantly evolving Prime Video catalogue.
It represents an adaptation of the novel bearing the same title, penned by renowned author Stephen King. Though upon its initial publication, it appeared under his pseudonym Richard Bachman.
Interestingly, this was the identical pen name employed for the release of The Running Man, which likewise received a cinema adaptation last year.
Helmed by Francis Lawrence, who previously directed The Hunger Games film series, The Long Walk is characterised as “an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go?”
According to its concise synopsis, the narrative unfolds in an alternative post-war United States where teenage males compete in a punishing high-stakes competition where they must perpetually walk or face being shot by a member of their military escort, reports the Mirror.
Each participant must sustain a speed of three miles per hour of continuous walking for days, and failure to comply after three warnings leads to death. The participant who endures the longest secures a substantial cash prize and the granting of one wish of his choosing.
The cast features Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, who portrays the villainous Major overseeing the walk. He is accompanied by Cooper Hoffman, son of Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, alongside Industry star David Jonsson and Ransom Canyon actor Garrett Wareing.
Achieving an 88% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes, the film proved a triumph with critics and audiences alike. Despite alterations from the source material, numerous reviewers lauded its emotional resonance.
One critic declared the film ‘perfect’ while another went as far as branding it ‘one of the best Stephen King adaptations ever’. However, one reviewer cautioned: “It is not for the faint of heart, but it will stick with you.”
Numerous cinema-goers remarked on how they were moved to tears by the film’s conclusion. One person said: “Absolutely astonishing. Beautiful cinematic work and characters. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. So engaging, made me cry. Loved it a lot. Beautiful movie.”
Another admitted: “I don’t cry when I watch movies, if anything I tear up, the finale, made me hard cry, hard, speechless.” While someone else shared: “I don’t usually cry while watching movies but I definitely did watching this one. It really stuck with me.”
Echoing a similar sentiment, one person said: “This is my favourite movie of all time! This is one of the few movies I have ever watched that made me cry.
“Ray and Pete are a dynamic duo and Pete is one of the best written characters I’ve ever seen. This movie is definitely graphic, but it is still a beautiful movie. The premise is terrifying in a compelling way. 10/10 would recommend, I’ve watched it like 5 times already.”
