Oscar-nominated Jane Austen classic is on TV this weekend | Films | Entertainment

Meanwhile, a new Netflix version with Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden is set to be released this year. But did you know the 2005 film adaptation of the classic period drama is a four-time Oscar nominee?

Fresh off newfound fame in Pirates of the Caribbean, Keira Knightley starred as Elizabeth Bennet opposite Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr Darcy. Based on the 1813 novel of the same name, the story follows five sisters from an English aristocratic family as this handsome gentleman falls in love with one of them. Upon its release, Pride & Prejudice was a box-office success, with critics praising Knightley’s role in particular.

In fact, Knightley was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar at just 20 years old, making her the third-youngest ever at the time. The film co-stars Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Tom Hollander, Penelope Wilton, Judi Dench, Carey Mulligan and Rupert Friend.

Pride & Prejudice is on BBC2 this Sunday afternoon at 4:25pm and will be streaming on BBC iPlayer afterwards for a limited time only.
