Pilot injured after plane crashes into roof of Texas home | World | News
A pilot has been taken to hospital after a plane crashed onto the roof of a house in Texas. The incident happened on Kitty Hawk Street in the Covey Trails neighbourhood of Fulshear shortly before 6am on Monday after the aircraft came down on top of a property, according to local media.
The homeowner told ABC13 they were in bed when they heard a “loud bang” as the plane struck the house. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the pilot had been attempting to land at a nearby airstrip when the crash happened. Firefighters arrived to find the pilot trapped inside the cockpit. Crews first had to make the property safe as fuel was leaking from the plane, officials said.
Fulshear Fire Department Battalion Chief Ford Stein said firefighters isolated the home’s electricity supply to reduce the risk of a fire or explosion before the pilot could be freed.
The pilot was taken to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital with minor injuries. The homeowners were not hurt in the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as a Piper J3C-65 and said the pilot was the only person on board. The agency said it will investigate the cause of the crash.
Covey Trails is a gated community built around a grass runway where many residents own and fly aircraft, although it is not yet known whether the pilot lived in the area.
