Poland issues major update over ‘Russian missile entering NATO airspace’ as tensions soar | World | News

Air raid systems sounded in the eastern Polish city of Lublin, where a crater was reported, and air defense systems were put on alert. Confirming the incident Mr Tusk said Poland “was ready to shoot down the missile if it continued its flight”. He said that “everything indicates that it was a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile”.

“During Russia‘s massive attacks on Ukraine, there was a violation of Polish airspace. We have a serious incident”, the Prime Minister added.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha earlier posted on X: “Overnight, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile crossed into Poland as part of Russia’s massive strike against Ukraine, violating NATO airspace.”

He continued: “The Russian missile incursion into Poland also serves as a reminder that there is nothing more urgent for our two countries than countering our common, ages-old enemy, which poses a direct threat to both of our nations.”

“All other disagreements must be put aside during this brutal war. Our top priority must be our shared security.”

“People reported explosions and loud noises in the sky. We’re out there checking it out. The search is being conducted at the border between Biłgoraj and Lublin provinces”, Lublin’s Provincial Fire Service told Wirtualna Polska.

Meanwhile, locals in the village of Targowiska, reported hearing extremely loud explosions, with windows shaking in some homes.

Last night Ukraine suffered a hellish night with Russia launching widespread missile and drone attacks which saw at least eight killed and 30 injured.

Among those to die was a six-year-old girl and two boys aged 11 and 17. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had launched more than 70 missiles and over 280 drones at the country overnight.

The worst attack was near Zelensky’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih. Oleksandr Vilkul, the city’s defence council head, branded it a “dark night”.
