Marcus Rashford has sent a message of appreciation to Barcelona after his loan spell officially came to an end. The England international will now be expected to return to Manchester United, where he faces an uncertain future.
Rashford was loaned out to Barcelona last season and there was an expectation that the 28-year-old would leave United to move to the Camp Nou on a permanent basis.
The La Liga giants could have signed Rashford for £26million, but have since opted to bring Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi to the club on permanent deals rather than activate the clause.
“I’m very grateful to everyone at the club for making my time here such a positive and memorable experience,” Rashford posted on Instagram.
“I’ve enjoyed every moment and will take many special memories with me.“I wish the club and all its supporters the very best of luck and every success in the season ahead. Visca el Barça.”
A number of Rashford’s now-former Barcelona teammates responded warmly to the United winger’s post, leaving comments beneath the England star’s message.
Roony Bardghji wrote: “I’ll miss you bro,” accompanied by a red love heart emoji, while Gerard Martin added: “All the best rashyyy, you are top bro!!”
Former Manchester City star Joao Cancelo wrote: “All the best my bro. Top player,” while rumoured United transfer target Marc Casado added: “Thanks for all Rashy, all the best!”
Rashford now faces an uncertain future upon his return to United following his summer break, having played his part in helping England reach the World Cup semi-final.
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have emerged as potential destinations for Rashford should a permanent departure from Old Trafford materialise.
Rashford netted 14 goals and contributed 14 assists throughout his loan stint at Barcelona, and the question of where the forward will be plying his trade this forthcoming season remains very much unanswered.
The 28-year-old has not featured competitively for United since December 2024, with reports suggesting the Reds may be willing to accept a bid of around £30m should one arrive before the September 1 deadline.
