Rory McIlroy took the time to acknowledge a company that crafted his golf ball markers following his Masters victory last year. McIlroy, 37, who claimed the Masters for a second time in April, is now preparing for the PGA Championship, which tees off on Thursday. Despite riding the ultimate wave of euphoria after completing a long-awaited career Grand Slam at Augusta National in April 2025, McIlroy still managed to find time for the touching gesture ahead of last year’s second major, demonstrating his true character.
He dispatched the extraordinary gift directly to the creator of the ball marker. The thoughtful token served as his way of expressing heartfelt gratitude to all those who played a part in his extraordinary success, however minor their contribution may have seemed. American firm Golf Life Metals shared a photograph on X proudly displaying the gift they received from McIlroy. The golfing icon expressed his appreciation for their creation of a bespoke ball marker for the tournament – as well as various other events in previous years.
The recipient of the gift, Jon, was absolutely thrilled to receive a Masters flag personally signed by McIlroy, accompanied by a note reading: “Jon, thanks for all the ball markers over the years!” He was additionally presented with a miniature glass box containing replicas of trophies from McIlroy’s glittering career Grand Slam.

Sharing a photograph of the gift via @golflifemetals’s official X account, Jon said: “I have won some trophies myself, but this takes the cake… My golf life is blessed, thank you very much Rory McIlroy.”
The company had displayed the fortunate marker that the two-time Masters champion utilised throughout the 2025 tournament. The marker showcased a simplified version of the Manchester United crest, with McIlroy recognised as a devoted United supporter, alongside the Northern Irishman’s initials.
On the reverse side, an inspirational quote from McIlroy’s daughter Poppy read: “‘You already know how to play golf’ – Poppy,” accompanied by a red love heart.
He claimed the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014 but endured difficulties at the 2025 edition, eventually finishing T47. Questions were even raised about his participation in this year’s event after he was observed limping at the Truist Championship this past weekend.
During the closing stages of the tournament in North Carolina, McIlroy was witnessed struggling with his mobility. The two-time Masters champion subsequently confirmed a blister was to blame.

He has now acknowledged that it is merely a minor concern and will not impact his participation at the PGA Championship. McIlroy said: “I’ve got a blister on my pinky toe on my right foot, but it’s underneath my nail. So I can’t really get to it or so it’s a little sore, but I’ll be all right.”
The two-time PGA Championship winner did concede there are certain aspects of his game requiring attention, however, following a below-par showing at the Truist.
“I think the range session last night was good, Figured out a couple of things,” McIlroy said. “As I said, I feel like I got into a couple of bad habits just because of that left-to-right wind on the range all week. So straighten that out.”
