Russia has unleashed its largest and most brutal ballistic missile attack since the beginning of the Ukraine war, raining absolute hellfire on the capital city of Kyiv. In a terrifying multi-hour blitz that began in the dead of night, Vladimir Putin’s forces launched a staggering 41 missiles and 125 kamikaze drones in a desperate bid to crush Ukrainian resistance.
The catastrophic bombardment has left at least six people dead and dozens more maimed in Kyiv, with apocalyptic fires tearing through five separate districts of the city. Desperate rescue workers were filmed pulling bloodied survivors from the wreckage of burning residential blocks and shattered homes. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, rescue teams frantically pulled four trapped civilians from a private home engulfed in a fireball. Meanwhile, in the Shevchenkivskyi district, trapped residents had to be pulled from the upper floors of a blazing three-storey building.
As fires also ripped through the Solomyanskyi, Desnianskyi and Dnipro districts, one body was pulled from the charred remains of a non-residential building. Miraculously, some survived the initial blasts. One terrified resident in western Kyiv described the moment the shockwave tore his home apart, striking him in the head with his own balcony door.
Refusing to leave his vulnerable family, he said: “My grandmother lives with me, and she can’t walk. How could I run away and leave her behind?”
As the barrage continued, the Kremlin put out a statement claiming the strikes had targeted military sites, including plants producing Flamingo drones and Neptune guided missiles. Moscow further claimed a targeted postal terminal was being used to store “dual-use goods” and assemble military robotics.
But Ukraine‘s Prime Minister, Sergii Koretskyi, blasted the excuse, stating the attack was nothing more than a horrific “reminder that Russia’s strategy has been reduced to terror against civilians”.
The savage escalation comes as Ukraine faces a catastrophic shortage of US-made Patriot air-defence missiles – the only weapons capable of knocking Putin’s deadly ballistic missiles out of the sky.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a frantic plea to Western allies as the capital burned, warning that any hesitation plays directly into the Kremlin’s hands. He revealed that in just one single week, Russia has sent 1,450 attack drones, 1,640 guided bombs and 99 missiles to his country.
While US President Donald Trump has signalled he is prepared to grant Ukraine licences to produce its own Patriot interceptor missiles, the details remain completely unclear while Kyiv’s stockpiles run dry.
The blitz follows a wave of humiliating Ukrainian strikes just hours earlier. On Saturday, drones obliterated the massive Wildberries logistics hub near Moscow, killing eight and injuring 62. Kyiv’s forces also struck two Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea and a vital military crane in the Sea of Azov.
