Sir Alex Ferguson gesture made as legendary Man Utd boss hospitalised | Football | Sport
Sir Alex Ferguson’s name rang out around Old Trafford on Sunday after the legendary former Manchester United manager was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. The Scotsman had been expected to attend the Red Devils’ fixture against Liverpool on Sunday.
However, the 84-year-old was instead taken to the hospital as a precaution, with sources remaining optimistic that he will shortly be recovering at home. Ferguson was transported by ambulance approximately an hour before United’s match against Arne Slot‘s side got underway, though the situation was not deemed an emergency.
United fans could be heard chanting “every single one of us loves Alex Ferguson”, a chant popularised during his time at the club.
Sunday’s episode is not the first time Ferguson has faced a health scare. He suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2018 but made a full recovery following successful surgery. It is understood that the latest incident is unrelated to his previous condition.
Reflecting on that frightening ordeal in the 2021 film ‘Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In’, he said: “There were five brain haemorrhages that day. Three died. Two survived. You know you are lucky.”
Ferguson is widely considered United’s greatest-ever manager, having claimed 13 Premier League titles during his tenure, alongside two Champions League trophies and a host of domestic honours. He stepped down in 2013 after 26 remarkable years at the helm.
United have been transformed since Ruben Amorim was sacked and replaced by Michael Carrick as interim head coach in January.
They are on course to seal an unlikely Champions League spot, having struggled in the first half of the season.
No further update has been provided on Ferguson, who was pictured with guests at Old Trafford in the hours before kick-off, with club officials optimistic that he will soon be fit enough to return to the stadium when ready.
