Residents across parts of South Carolina have been left shaken after reporting a loud explosion near an airport.

Locals from Lexington, Columbia and other areas in the US state have been left shocked by the loud noise that left houses reportedly shaking.

Multiple social media users took to X, claiming they heard a “massive boom” in the area surrounding Hamilton-Owens Downtown Airport in Columbia, with some saying the noise was strong enough to rattle buildings and windows.

One user wrote: “Does anybody know what that explosion was near the airport? My whole house just shook.”

Another posted: “That boom was insane. Thought something crashed.”

A third added: “Massive bang just heard throughout the Midlands region of South Carolina.”

Others across the region reported hearing the same noise, with several claiming their homes shook from the apparent blast.

There has so far been no official confirmation about the source of the mystery explosion.
