History buffs and those gripped by the real and gripping stories of men at war will have no reason not to fall in love with this series, which viewers have dubbed a ‘masterpiece’.

With an all-star cast, this standalone series has left a lasting legacy in the world of TV and continues to stun viewers that discover it all these years later for its realistic depiction of war.

Based on a book published in 1992 by Stephen E. E.Ambrose, Band of Brothers is a series which explores the history of a parachute infantry company in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II.

The show concentrates heavily on the lives of the soldiers working for the company, based on real-life accounts of army veterans.

The beginning of each episode opens with excerpts from interviews with some of the survivors of the war before leading into a powerful retelling of events that one viewer claims is “beautifully done”.

One person left a review on Rotten Tomatoes saying: “Finished this series for the first time about a week ago, and it’s hands down one of the best series I’ve seen! I love basically anything to do with WW1 and WW2, and being a series, it can get into a lot more than a movie can. Classic!”

Retelling the moving story in the 2001 series is a collaboration of A-list actors, with major Hollywood creators behind the helm, those being Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

The cast is made up of Tom Hardy, David Schwimmer, Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston and Mathew Settle, along with an array of other talented actors.

This, paired with the series’ pioneering production value for a TV series of the early 2000s era, helped to skyrocket Band of Brothers to worldwide fame.

It has often been cited as one of the greatest shows of all time and went on to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries.

One fan of the show said: “Beautifully done. Truly one of the greatest miniseries ever made.” Another added: “My favourite series of all time. Tastefully done and expertly created, based on the accounts given by the WW2 veterans themselves.”

A fan claimed that it is “one of the best series of all time, hands down”. They continued to say, “So great from everyone’s acting to how each episode is shot to even having some stories of the real soldiers sprinkled in…True Masterpiece.”

Across ten gripping episodes, Band of Brothers shows dramatised accounts of the men involved in the Easy Company’s exploits during the Second World War.

Based on historical events, many of the characters die or face serious injuries and are sent home as a result, whilst others recover and are sent to rejoin on the front line.

The story’s narrative is left by the often dark mental and physical challenges that they have to overcome, beginning in 1942, right up until the very end of the war.

A viewer summed it up perfectly to say: “Deeply felt, impactful and incredibly helmed, Band of Brothers is a gut-wrenching and expressive miniseries that perfectly depicts the horrors of war while also courageously, honestly and humanly showing true friendship and heroic sacrifice, all in all making this essential viewing.”

While the show was first aired on HBO Max, it remains available to stream on HBO Max, Now TV and Amazon Prime.
