A gripping Netflix thriller is steadily climbing the UK Top 10 Chart, with crime drama devotees eager to uncover the story behind The Marked Woman.
The Spanish-language film, originally titled La desconocida, landed on Netflix on 5th June following a limited theatrical release, and features Ana Rujas, Candela Peña and Pol López in leading roles.
Set against the backdrops of Barcelona and Algeciras, the movie, which is just one of many Netflix thrillers, follows a security guard who makes a shocking discovery — a woman concealed inside a container at the Port of Barcelona.
With no memory of her identity, she is rushed to hospital, where an attempt is subsequently made on her life.
Police sergeant Anna Ripoll (Peña) and corporal Quique Zárate (López) are handed the investigation, and here is everything you need to know about the film.

The story opens with a young woman discovered bound and gagged inside a shipping container.
When the two detectives assigned to her case establish that she has absolutely no recollection of who she is or how she ended up there, they dedicate themselves to uncovering her true identity.
Netflix teased: “They have to unlock the secrets in her missing memories before her captors make another attempt on her life.”
Central to the narrative is detective Anna Ripoll, who returns to her role as a human trafficking investigator following a forced leave of absence in the wake of a personal tragedy.
While doctors tend to the mysterious woman suffering from amnesia, Ripoll struggles to crack a case with virtually no leads, and finds herself reluctantly paired with the “shady and frenetic” officer Quique Zárate.

Candela Peña, best known for her roles in Take My Eyes and A Gun in Each Hand, takes on the lead role of Anna Ripoll.
Spanish model-turned-actress Ana Rujas portrays the unidentified woman, while Heirs to the Land actor Pol López steps into the role of Quique Zárate.
City of Shadows star Manolo Solo takes on the role of Andrés Falcó, while Money Heist actor Luka Peroš appears as Manuel Rojas Horvat.
Completing the principal cast is Alpha Males actress Kira Miró, who plays Lucía Melgar.

The film draws its inspiration from the novel La desconocida, co-authored by acclaimed Spanish writer Rosa Montero and French writer Olivier Truc in 2023.
Montero told Netflix: “It was a fascinating, incredibly fun, and somewhat crazy project that gave our unknown character’s story an unusual intensity.
“I can’t wait to see how this formidable team has translated all that suspense into the film.”
