Tottenham get fresh injury blow with Dominic Solanke return timeframe | Football | Sport

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt what could be another significant injury setback as they fight to preserve their Premier League status. Spurs currently occupy 18th place with just four matches remaining to prevent relegation to the Championship.

Roberto De Zerbi celebrated his first victory as Tottenham manager at the weekend with a 1-0 win away at Wolves, yet has since been confronted with fresh injury worries following the three points. According to a report in The Telegraph, Dominic Solanke has sustained a hamstring injury that could rule the striker out for the rest of the campaign.

Solanke was withdrawn during the victory at Wolves due to injury and replaced by Richarlison, and it now appears the forward could be facing a spell on the sidelines in recovery.

Consequently, even if Solanke is sidelined for just three weeks, he would miss a considerable portion of Tottenham’s run-in as they bid to avoid relegation.

Should Solanke be ruled out for eight weeks, he would miss the entirety of Tottenham’s remaining fixtures, casting serious doubt over his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.

The news regarding Solanke comes on the back of confirmation that Xavi Simons suffered an ACL injury during Tottenham’s win at Wolves and faces several months in recovery.

Cristian Romero will also be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign through injury, while Dejan Kulusevski, Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert and Ben Davies remain long-term absentees.

Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend as they face Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, and will be hoping to welcome back several players from their injury list.

Guglielmo Vicario has been recovering from a hernia operation, while Pape Matar Sarr missed Tottenham’s victory over Wolves with a shoulder problem. Destiny Udogie was also absent for the trip to Molineux owing to a muscle injury, but could be in the frame to feature for Spurs at the weekend.

De Zerbi will be expected to provide a fitness update on Solanke and the rest of the Tottenham squad when he speaks to the media later in the week ahead of the clash with Villa.

Tottenham have four fixtures remaining to secure their Premier League survival, but find themselves in 18th place and two points adrift of safety with less than a handful of matches left to play.

After facing Villa, Spurs will take on Leeds United (May 11), Chelsea (May 19) and Everton (May 24) in their three remaining fixtures.
