Tottenham ‘on verge of beating Man Utd and Liverpool’ to blockbuster free transfer | Football | Sport
Tottenham are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Argentine has impressed for Andoni Iraola’s side, and is set to join his manager in leaving the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season.
Senesi joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022 but has resisted the Cherries’ best efforts to pen him down to a new contract. Instead, it would appear he’s eyeing up a move to a different club in the Premier League, with Tottenham emerging as the most likely candidate.
What’s more, the outlet claims any prospective deal for Senesi would hinge on Tottenham retaining their status in the Premier League. Roberto De Zerbi is the latest manager parachuted in to try and save Spurs’ season, but the north Londoners currently find themselves inside the bottom three.
The 2025 Europa League winners will resume their bid to avoid the drop at home to De Zerbi’s old employers, Brighton, when the two meet in Saturday’s tea-time kick-off. Failure to win the match in the capital could see Spurs slip even further into trouble, given West Ham play Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest host Burnley.
The potential Senesi signing has cast doubt on the futures of both Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, with the former having been linked with a move away from Spurs. Romero went off injured during the weekend defeat to Sunderland, and is likely to miss the remainder of the season, meaning the Argentina international might’ve already played his final game for the club.
Meanwhile, Senesi, much like Van de Ven is a left-sided centre-half, and while usually two options in each position would be preferable, Spurs will not be competing in Europe next season. Therefore, minutes will be limited, meaning it could be difficult to persuade Senesi to join if he isn’t coming in as a first-choice option.
Elsewhere, Tottenham are also said to be keeping a keen eye on Andy Robertson, who has just announced his imminent departure from Liverpool. Once again though, that’s dependent on Spurs still being in the Premier League next season.
