As the hunt for ITV‘s beloved Dr Michael Mosley so far proves unsuccessful, Greek officials grimly set a deadline for the search amid fears he may have succumbed to the blistering heatwave. And the mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, where the This Morning health expert went missing, suggested that Dr. Mosley might have fainted from dehydration as temperatures soared to 35C.
Mayor Papakalodoukas highlighted the treacherous nature of Dr. Mosley’s hiking path, marked by “very high cliffs” and rugged terrain, which could have posed significant risks, especially without water. With the search entering a critical phase, authorities have committed to another five days of intensive efforts, after which they may need to reassess, pending further support from Greek or UK entities, as he disclosed to LBC.
The 67-year-old presenter disappeared while trekking from St Nicholas Beach to Pedi Beach. He embarked on his journey at approximately 1.30pm, and concern grew when he failed to return by 7.30pm, prompting his wife, Dr Clare Bailey, 62, to sound the alarm.
In the latest update tonight, police promised more officers would join the search-and-rescue operation on Friday. Local police said late on Thursday that the search had paused for the night but “more men will be coming” on Friday morning.
In an earlier statement, Mayor Papakalodoukas noted that there had been sightings of Dr. Mosley engaging with locals in town after his hike. Search teams, now including helicopters, drones, dogs, and numerous emergency personnel, are scouring the Dodecanese Island region for any sign of the missing doctor, as reported by Birmingham Live, reports the Mirror.
Greek police have issued a statement confirming they were alerted to the “disappearance of the 67-year-old British national on the island” on Wednesday. They have initiated an “investigation” and launched a search operation involving the Fire Brigade, Hellenic Police, Civil Protection (a local and regional coordination agency), volunteers and a police dog.
Drones are also being used in the search efforts. It is believed that Dr Mosley’s wife, Dr Clare Bailey, 62, raised the alarm after her husband vanished during a coastal walk near St Nicholas Beach on Wednesday.
