Donald Trump has exploded in a bombshell interview after US troops were forced to intercept an Iranian ballistic missile attack in Jordan overnight.
He raged during an interview with Fox News: “We’re going to beat the f***ing s*** out of them,” Trump told Fox News on Wednesday morning. We’ll be hitting them hard. They’re going to get a beating.” Mr Trump said US forces had only a few minutes to react to the surprise attack but successfully intercepted and destroyed the incoming missiles before they could reach their intended targets. He added that he had reviewed footage of the operation, which showed American personnel relaying missile coordinates in real time as the interception unfolded.
The US President also stated that the overnight US-Saudi strikes targeting Iran-backed Shiite militias in Iraq were carried out in coordination with the Iraqi government. He called the militias a “cancer on the world” and said additional warnings against Iranian proxies were under consideration.
US Central Command and Saudi forces carried out precision strikes against “Iran-aligned terrorists” in eastern Iraq on Tuesday, CENTCOM said.
CENTCOM wrote on X: “US Central Command and the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces conducted precision strikes in Iraq, July 28, against Iran-aligned terrorists that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) directed to attack U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.”
US and Saudi fighter jets struck multiple weapons and logistics sites in response to more than 30 IRGC-directed drone attacks over the past 72 hours, according to the command.
CENTCOM said the attacks against US forces were unsuccessful.
It said: “From February through April 2026, there were more than 600 attempted attacks on U.S. citizens and facilities by Iran-aligned terrorist militias in Iraq. The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further US military response.”
On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Tehran “does not seek escalation” after speaking with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Mr Araghchi wrote on X: “Was assured by [Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha] that the attack on an Iranian ship was unintentional and Ukraine seeks no escalation,. Iran does not seek escalation either, but made clear any attack on our citizens or interests is unacceptable. There must be restitution for losses.”
