Trump posts bizarre image of him and Jesus embracing as MAGA Christians rage at President | World | News
Donald Trump has posted an image of himself and Jesus appearing to embrace, despite mounting anger from Christians. The post on Truth Social was captioned: “The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!! President DJT”.
The new photo was originally posted on a page on X called “Irish for Trump” alongside the caption: “I was never a very religious man .. but doesn’t it seem, with all these satanic, demonic, child sacrificing monsters being exposed … that God might be playing his Trump card!” The latest post comes just days after President Trump sparked international fury by posting an image depicting him as Jesus, dressed in robes and using divine power to heal a man.
It was later taken down from the platform amid a backlash. Mr Trump claimed he never intended to liken himself to the son of God and insisted it was supposed to depict him as a doctor.
A significant number of Christian voters helped Mr Trump secure his presidential election victory in 2024. But his recent posts have caused dismay across the political spectrum. His attacks on Pope Leo XIV have also upset US Catholics.
Mr Trump had harsh words for the pontiff after Leo called for a softening of war rhetoric. The US president called Leo “weak” and captive to the “radical left” on social media earlier this week.
His unfounded claims came after the Pope called Mr Trump’s threats towards Iran “truly unacceptable”.
Backlash from Mr Trump’s former cheerleaders included evangelical Protestants, traditional Catholics and populist conservatives who form the core of his base.
Erick Erickson, a radio host and influential voice among evangelical voters central to MAGA, told Politico they were not getting what they voted for to begin with and he was either intentionally or unintentionally mocking their religion.
He said a lot of Mr Trump’s MAGA base are “exasperated enough” to start looking “beyond Trump”.
Meanwhile, Democrats on Tuesday (April 14) proposed setting up a commission which would work to remove Mr Trump from office under the 25th amendment, which lays out how a vice-president can take over from a president who resigns or dies.
Democrat, Jamie Ruskin, said in a statement that public trust in Mr Trump’s ability to meet his duties as president have dropped to “unprecedented lows”.
He suggested this was the result of threatening to destroy entire civilisations, unleashing chaos in the Middle East, insulting the Pope and comparing himself to Jesus in social media images.
