US President Donald Trump has raged at what he calls a migrant “invasion” into Spain after 60,000 people broke into the country’s territory on the border with Morocco.
Speaking to Fox News on Friday, Trump pointed to images of thousands of migrants reaching Ceuta and used them to reinforce his long-standing calls for tougher border controls.
“It’s terrible. Remember that picture. That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in,” Trump said. “If the Democrats get in, you will not live a very good life.”

“If we’re not in office, our country will be invaded at levels that made Spain look small time.”
Trump said the images from Spain would become “a talking point for the midterms”, adding: “When you look at what happened to Spain, they don’t know what to do, and it’s happening again today. They’re coming in by the tens of thousands. They’re just invading the country.”
He blamed what he described as “weak law, bad management, but very liberal law” for the surge in crossings.
“They passed a couple of laws and people are smart. They read from other countries and they swam that three-mile swim, or however they got in,” Trump said. “Nobody’s seen anything like it.”

The President then turned his attention back to US immigration, arguing: “That will look good compared to what’s going to happen to the United States.”
Trump also renewed his criticism of former President Joe Biden‘s border policies, claiming: “The biggest thing, the worst thing that Biden did is allowing 25 million people into our country.”
He added: “Many of those people are criminals. They’re murderers.”
The White House later echoed Trump’s remarks, blaming what it described as “far-left globalist policies” for the crisis, in which at least 43 people have died, many while attempting to swim from Morocco to Ceuta.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez travelled to the enclave on Friday, condemning the people-smuggling gangs behind the mass crossings and saying their actions “deserve our reproach and our condemnation in the strongest possible terms”.
According to Spain’s Interior Ministry, around 37,500 people who entered Ceuta irregularly since Thursday have already been returned to Morocco.
Despite the scale of the crossings, the European Union stressed there have been no irregular migrant movements from Ceuta into mainland Spain or elsewhere in continental Europe.
