Trump says he wants to be President ‘for next 9 years’ in chilling threat | World | News

Donald Trump has sparked outrage after saying he could be President for the next “nine years.” The 79-year-old attended a business summit on Monday and addressed attendees, and said that he might be President for another two terms before going on a rant about how physically and mentally well he is.

Some have interpreted the President’s comments as a threat to the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution, which states that a person may serve no more than two terms as President. Speaking about tax policies for companies in the US, which state that businesses can deduct the costs of new facilities, Trump quipped that he might use it when he is no longer President. “When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now, I’ll be able to use it. I’ll be able to use it myself,” he said.

A clip of the chilling remarks quickly made the rounds on social media, with people sharing their concern over the words uttered by the President.

“This is not a joke and I don’t find it funny,” said one X user.

Another posted: “People laughing at this ‘joke’ disgusts me the most!”

After making the comments, Trump attempted to shut down concerns over his physical and mental health, and took the opportunity to tell the crowd that former President Biden, who defeated Trump in the 2020 US election, would not pass a cognitive test if he were given one.

“Anybody running for president or vice president, should take a cognitive test. And no president has ever taken one except me. I’ve taken three of them, and I’ve aced each one, one in the first administration, two over here,” he said. “How do you think Biden would have done? I don’t think… he might not have gotten that first question right.”

Trump has recently faced accusations of poor health, with some questioning his ability to be in his powerful position. He was recently accused of being “not well” following a flurry of late-night social media posts, amongst them a preview of the planned redesign of Washington DC’s iconic reflecting pool.

Beginning at 11.03pm local time, the US president shared an AI-generated image depicting himself, JD Vance, and Marc Rubio paddling shirtless in the famous Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which is set to be coloured “American flag blue” using an “industrial-grade pool” surface, rather than having its granite floor restored.
