Two Man Utd stars INEOS need to sell after woeful Leeds loss | Football | Sport
Casemiro’s goal with 21 minutes remaining halved the deficit, but an equaliser never followed and Leeds held on to claim an important victory. It was a deserved loss for Michael Carrick’s side, who were nowhere near their best and simply didn’t do enough to take anything from the game.
Their abject performance exposed two players in particular who are simply not good enough for United and should be moved on in the summer window.
Kobbie Mainoo’s late withdrawal due to a training injury saw Manuel Ugarte handed a rare start in midfield. However, it’s been clear for some time that he isn’t up to scratch and that was painfully clear against Leeds.
It’s often hard to notice Ugarte when he plays, given how little he offers in the middle of the park. He did next to nothing on Monday night and there’s no reason to believe that will change in the near future.
It’s not a coincidence that he has only featured in one win this season despite making 10 league appearances, a run that has included six defeats and draws to all of the promoted sides.
Ugarte has only won six games for United since his arrival more than 18 months ago and you could even argue that he shouldn’t play for the club again. If they can find any takers, the 25-year-old should be the first player out the door at the end of the season.
Noussair Mazraoui was also among United’s worst performers against Leeds. His display was summed up by a wild effort from outside the box that sailed both high and wide.
The defender rarely impresses for the Red Devils and has fallen firmly behind Diogo Dalot in the pecking order, which says a lot given how frustrating Dalot usually is.
Right-back has been a problem area for United for some time and they should look to improve in the summer by getting rid of Mazraoui and signing a better player.
Even though they were awful against Leeds, they remain firmly on course to qualify for next season’s Champions League by securing a top-five finish.
Players like Ugarte and Mazraoui certainly won’t cut it at that level, so they will need to be sold over the coming months.
