Who will England play in the next round of the World Cup?

    • Round of 32: After progressing through a group containing Ghana, Panama and Croatia, the Three Lions earned a round-of-32 clash against DR Congo in Atlanta. Thomas Tuchel will be hoping it’s the first step of a knockout run that ends in World Cup glory.
    • Round of 16: The stage where World Cup knockouts have started in the past, England already knew their prospective round-of-16 opponent before the DR Congo clash, and it isn’t an easy one. They’ll travel to Mexico City for a mouth-watering clash against co-hosts Mexico in the Azteca Stadium, should they defeat DR Congo.
    • Quarter-finals: There’s no let-up after that, given England will either play against Erling Haaland‘s Norway or record champions Brazil in Miami, should they progress that far. Given the large Brazilian diaspora in Miami, it would likely feel like a home match for the South Americans, not to mention the heat and humidity. If it’s Norway, good luck trying to shut Haaland down!
    • Semi-finals: They do say there’s no easy match at a World Cup, and that’s definitely looking like the case if England want to win the World Cup. The highest-ranked opponent on the opposite quarter of the bracket is Argentina, but it could end up being Colombia, Switzerland, or even Cape Verde.
    • Final: And then onto New York (well, New Jersey), which is where Tuchel and England will be hoping to achieve their World Cup dreams. The most likely candidates are Spain or France, with Portugal and Morocco the other big hitters on that side of the draw.
