Wimbledon LIVE: Sinner and Zverev face huge tax bill as champion makes coach cry | Tennis | Sport

Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev will face a hefty tax bill whoever is crowned Wimbledon winner this afternoon.

The two will meet in the final of the men’s singles later this afternoon.

The winner will be awarded a staggering £3.6million in prize money, which is a substantial boost to last year’s £3m.

The runner-up won’t be short-changed, with £1.8m being awarded to second place.

However, they face losing a big chunk due to the UK’s tax laws.

The highest nominal income tax rate in the UK is 45 per cent, which is placed on earnings over £125,140 within the same tax year.

Due to the prize money being in the millions and her being part of the highest tax bracket, the money they receive will be taxed at the highest income rate.
