Your weekend begins on Friday, with a relaxing train journey courtesy of Lumo on the East Coast network (or £100 towards travel expenses). You’ll then enjoy a two-night stay in a family room at the 4-star Hilton Hotel with fabulous views of Newcastle’s picturesque Quayside. After a sumptuous Saturday breakfast, get ready for a roar-some experience at the city’s award-winning Life Science Centre where The Great Dinosaur Escape features the biggest collection of moving dinosaurs in the North! Become a Dino Ranger and wander among colossal animatronic dinosaurs, some towering at four metres tall! Follow a specially created trail and learn dino facts to help crack a code to secure the dinosaur enclosure, and enjoy extra fun with live shows, hands-on making activities and experiments. As well as embracing these enormous animatronics, making their UK debut at Life, you will be able to enjoy all activities and exhibitions Life has to offer plus a tasty snack in Life’s Cafe.

After lunch, it’s a five minute walk to Utilita Arena, Newcastle, one of the region’s leading entertainment venues – which is hosting the award-winning Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience. Produced by Annerin Productions and Paquin Entertainment Group, Beyond Van Gogh blends art and technology to offer a powerful and accessible way to experience one of history’s most influential artists. Meander through masterpieces including The Starry Night and Sunflowers as the artworks come to life, swirling and blooming across walls and floors, creating an awe-inspiring fully immersive experience.

When it’s time to wander down from the main city to the Quayside area (all downhill) for your Saturday evening meal, we’re taking you to a restaurant with great food and beautiful surroundings.
Overlooking the Tyne, with stunning views of the Quayside, your family will be treated to a memorable dining experience at Gino’s Newcastle: your meal will include soft drinks for children and a bottle of house wine for adults. From comforting pasta dishes to authentic Italian favourites, it’s the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy quality time together and reflect on a day well spent!
After a good night’s sleep and another delicious Hilton breakfast, one idea for an enjoyable Sunday morning could be a slow stroll back to the Quayside to check out over 100 independent traders along the River Tyne, offering local art, crafts and traditional goods in Newcastle’s famous Sunday Market.
Late morning, jump in a cab for a quick journey (one mile but uphill) to Newcastle’s largest independent contemporary art, craft and design gallery, The Biscuit Factory, located in a former Victorian warehouse in the Ouseburn cultural quarter. There you can browse original art, sculptures, prints, ceramics, textiles and jewellery – and you’ll have a £100 voucher to treat yourself here too, before enjoying lunch at the Factory Kitchen and beginning your journey home after a fun-packed family weekend enjoying art and culture in one of the UK’s friendliest cities.
