A woman was allegedly kidnapped and gang raped in a hotel room. Police confirmed three suspects have been arrested following the reported attack.
The victim was reportedly picked up in a car before being taken to a hotel where she was held by three youths. They then allegedly raped her and tried to steal money before she managed to flee the scene. After escaping, she called police and officers launched an urgent investigation. It has since been confirmed three boys have been arrested in connection with the reported attack and remain in police custody.
As reported by the Times of India, the woman was allegedly raped in a hotel located in the district of Chamarajanagar in Karnataka. The three suspects have been named as Rihan, Kiran and Kishore but their ages are unknown.
The woman, who is from West Bengal, was picked up from Tirumakudalu Narasipura before being driven to the hotel. According to Google Maps, the journey covers a distance of 35km (21.7 miles) and takes around 43 minutes by car.
It’s alleged the suspects took the woman’s mobile phone before she was raped. They also demanded 100,000 Indian Rupees (£772) before she managed to escape the hotel room.
Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi confirmed that three youths have been arrested and remain under police investigation. Meanwhile, the victim has been taken to a rehabilitation centre for counselling and support.
Police added that the victim’s identity has not been revealed in order to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault. The suspects will appear in court at a later date.
Chamarajanagar is the southernmost district in Karnataka, India, and lies around 185km south of Bengalur. It has a location of just over one million people and covers an area of 5,100 square kilometres.
