World Cup celebrations turned into nightmare as at least 17 football fans ‘hit by car’ | World | News


A car allegedly hit several people as football fans were celebrating a World Cup match victory on Wednesday night. Dozens of people had gathered in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur to celebrate Mexico’s 3-0 victory against the Czech Republic.

Initial reports indicate that a driver traveling along Lázaro Cárdenas Boulevard accelerated after encountering people on the roadway, allegedly striking and running over several individuals. At least 17 people were injured, according to official reports, the injured were taken to multiple hospitals aswell as being treated at the scene. The driver allegedly responsible was arrested after the incident.

Horrifying footage shows the car abruptly speeding up through the crowd, dispersing fans, before colliding with the kerb as a man filming shouted: “No way!”

The scene is alleged to have remained closed to traffic while emergency crews attended to the injured and conducted the initial investigation.

Public Safety, Fire Department and Civil Protection all attended the scene, they provided assistance to the injured people and closed the area.
