Zverev not featured in Princess Kate’s Wimbledon post | Tennis | Sport
Princess Catherine has celebrated her Wimbledon experience with an Instagram post describing a ‘remarkable’ fortnight of tennis. The Princess of Wales highlighted the victories of Jannik Sinner and Linda Noskova with images and showed runner-up Karolina Muchova, but Alexander Zverev was absent from the tribute.
But her duties did not end there, as she presented each finalist with their trophy following their matches. The princess took in Noskova’s 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over fellow Czech Muchova, and a dramatic men’s final that saw Sinner come from behind to beat Zverev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Reflecting on her time spent at SW19, Catherine posted: “A weekend at @Wimbledon. Congratulations to all the players and staff who took part in a remarkable fortnight of tennis.”
In addition to that message, the princess included photographs walking with her family, presenting trophies to Sinner and Noskova, handing a plate to Muchova, later shaking hands with Sinner off the court, shaking hands with ball boys and girls and ground staff, and her moments in the crowd. Zverev was not captured amongst the images, however.
The French Open champion may be particularly hurt after highlighting how special it is to perform in front of royalty. “One more thing, it is very special playing on this Centre Court, and it is because of the Royal Box as well,” he said, turning to the Royal Box, which still housed William.
“The amount of special people I see for every single match, especially the final, it is an honour to play in front of you, your Royal Highness and everybody. It is the most unique court in whole world, the royal box is special thing, and it is a massive honour to play on this court, simple as that.”
Wimbledon champion Sinner was afforded some time to speak with the royals in the clubhouse following his victory. The Italian detailed how much he appreciates the passion Princess Catherine and her family show for the sport.
“I have so much respect,” Sinner said in his post-match press conference. “You can really see that they love this sport.
“This is exactly how we feel as players when we see them. They’re staying there for four hours under the sun with the heat, it’s really nice.
“I asked the kids if they still play. They’re very happy. Yes they do. We had a very very small conversation, but I love it that they also take time to talk with me.”
