‘Best romcom of the decade’ now on Netflix as fans ‘beg for more’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The streaming behemoth dropped Voicemails for Isabelle just last Friday (June 19) and it has already soared to Number 1 on the most-watched films chart.

The heartwarming tale centres on a grieving young woman named Jill (played by Zoey Deutch), who deals with the sudden loss of her sister Isabelle by leaving voicemails on her phone.

However, she is unaware that Isabelle’s number has been reassigned to a mysterious man named Wes (Nick Robinson), who gradually begins to fall for Jill.

Most viewers have devoured the film over the past few days, leaving them on the hunt for their next fix. Fortunately, Netflix is also streaming Set it Up, another Deutch rom-com boasting even stronger reviews, reports the Mirror.

While Voicemails for Isabelle holds an impressive 84% Rotten Tomatoes score, Set it Up has secured a remarkable 92% critics’ rating. It charts another unlikely romance between two overworked assistants, Harper (Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell).

Following relentless mistreatment in the workplace, the pair join forces with a scheme to help their bosses unwind. They quietly conspire to nudge their managers, Kristen (Lucy Liu) and Rick (Taye Diggs), into a romance, hoping it will ease the burden of their working lives.

Yet the ‘set up’ ignites an unexpected connection of their own. Although it features well-known actors, this comedy may have escaped some audiences’ attention.

But those who discovered it upon its 2018 launch were entirely charmed.

Writing on IMDb, one admirer declared: “Nah bc this is the best romcom in the past 10 years. A completely underrated romcom with perfect casting and so much heart. It’s not as cheesy or cringey as the typical (especially Netflix original) rom com. They don’t make them like this anymore unfortunately.”

Another person expressed on Rotten Tomatoes: “It’s a perfect emotional partnership that hits all the right notes. Brilliantly wholesome, with everything feeling just right, from LOL moments to the touching, relatable depth. A total feel-good escape that sticks with you long after.”

Yet another audience member noted: “Not all rom-coms are good, there can either be good or very bad. I found this one definitely good and very worth watching as well. I hope it becomes an iconic classic rom-com at some point in time.”

While others labelled the film as an instant classic.

And a final fan ‘begged for more’ on Letterboxd. “I’m just a girl… standing in front of a screen.. begging for Netflix to make more romcoms like this,” they wrote.

Set it Up and Voicemails for Isabelle are both streaming on Netflix
